This two volume set contains original ideas and drawings by Leonardo da Vinci on the subjects of art, architecture, anatomy, zoology, physiology, astronomy, geography, topography, naval warfare, philosophy, morals, humor, painting, linear perspective, light and shade, the perspective of disappearance, theory of colors, perspective of color, aerial perspective, proportions and movements of the human figure, botany for painters, landscape painting, the practice of painting, studies and sketches and decorations for pictures, as well as letters, personal records, and miscellaneous notes. The text is in both the original Latin with an English translation. Both volumes are profusely illustrated. With one very small stain on the top page edge of the first volume, both books are in very good condition. This is an extremely difficult to find set of books, and will make an excellent addition to the library of the collector of rare books.
