Methuen & Co, 1898. First Edition. Leather Binding. Very Good. 2 volumes, complete as issued. The first English edition (from American sheets). Attractively bound in period 3/4 brown morocco over red textured boards, spines with raised bands and gilt tooling, edges speckled red (minor wear to bindings, corners a bit bumped). Profusely illustrated in b/w. PROVENANCE: engraved armorial bookplate in each volume of Wickham Noakes of Crofton Hall, from the noted brewing family, one-time High Sheriff of Surrey.
