About This Item
UK: Collins, 1989. Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good. 8.2 x 5.8 x 1.3 inches. h/b 336 pages, condition is very good. The wildest part of Britain lies north of the Clyde and Tay: the Highlands and Islands of Scotland. This huge area of rugged moorland, alpine mountain, and jagged coast has a remarkable natural history, with its relict and specialized animals and plants. Here, alone in Western Europe, are social animals in really large numbers: St Kilda, with its millions of puffins, its tens of thousands of gannets, fulmars and kittiwakes, its guillemots and razor-bills, its Leach's fork-tailed petrels, is the greatest bird island in the North Atlantic. Here, too, are found big animals in numbers for on the hills roam the deer: whilst off the coasts swim basking sharks, second largest of the world's fish.
