Begins with Adams Book was published before Lincoln, before photography. would guess early 1800's. Polk is included, 11th president of the U.S. 502 pp.

New York: Johnson, Fry & Company (1862) Original green covers w/ leather spine and corners. Gilt title and five raised bands on each spine. Extremities are moderately scuffed and worn. Light foxing to endpapers. Approx. 20 pp. have a brown stain in the top margin about 1/2" deep, that does not affect any of the text or images of Vol. 1. Illust. w/ b/w engravings. . Hard Cover. Very Good/No Dust Jacket. 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall.

In two volumes. New York: Johnson, Fry & Company, (1861-1864). 4to, half leather and a.e.g, gilt rules, raised bands, gilt spine lettering, beveled brown pebbled cloth boards stamped in gilt. Rubbed, cloth stained, joints tender, inner hinges starting. Cloth frayed at bottom corner of top board, Vol. I. The 119 plates are, with very few exceptions, extremely clean and sharp. Very good overall.

In two volumes , 488pp, 470pp. portrait frontispieces, engraved vignette title page, regular title page, with portraits from original full length paintings by Alonzo Chapell of presidents, jurist authors, naval and military heroes, etc. with biographical and historical narratives by the author. A very handsome set bound in publisher's full dark brown morocco, central title and flourishes gilt within blind stamped decorative border, raised bands, compartments lettered in gilt and decorated in blind, all edges gilt. Only minor post of rubbing to binding, faint circular dampstains to title page of volume one. Very nice set.
