With 16 plates and tissue guards, fold out map attached in back of book, appendix, and a list of subscribers to the Arctic Land Expedition.
Rebacked with recent calf leather around spine. Title, author and date stamped in silver gilt on spine. Original leather on quarter panels and adjacent to spine is worn and rubbed with some cracking. Some wear, scuffing to marbled paper sides. Marbled page edges have some fading. 1836 written in pencil underneath Roman numerals on title page. Spotted foxing, toning to pages.Binding tight. Stamp for A. V. Emmott & Sons Bookbinders, Inc. affixed inside lower edge of back cover. One of the important works of Arctic exploration, being an account of Back's expedition in search of John Ross, who had been missing for three winters.
