About This Item
London: Tom Stacey, 1972. First Edition. Hardcover. Fine/Near Fine. Cloth (fine), in photo-illustrated dust jacket (near fine, just a bit scuffed at extremities). From the library of Douglas Fairbanks, Jr., with his bookplate, and inscribed by the author: To my good friends Douglas and Mary Lee Fairbanks, who many years ago helped bring me back to life with an advance course in L'Attagre! With gratitude and affection, Christopher Short / Kent / 1972." Fairbanks (1909-2000) was an iconic American actor from Hollywoods Golden Era (his credits include Gunga Din), and a highly decorated naval officer of World War II. By all accounts he was very charming and popular, which all we've got to explain this unique association copy.
