About This Item
Edinburgh: William Blackwood and Sons, 1927. First edition. Cloth. Very Good. 10.5" by 8". Various. A first limited edition copy of the 'Life and Times' of Charles James Apperley, or as he was more largely known, 'Nimrod'. Charles James Apperley was a Welsh sportsman and sporting writer, widely known as Nimrod, the pseudonym under which he published his works. Apperley first began publishing his works 'on the chase and on the turf' through his contributions of a series of articles to 'The Sporting Magazine' that covered horse races, hunt meets and other sporting events. This copy is 'no.33' of a two hundred and fifty copy limited edition run. Collated complete, copiously illustrated throughout with thirty two tipped-in plates, four of which are coloured. This text was edited 'with additions' by E. D. Cuming. This copy is lacking its original dustwrapper. In the publisher's original cloth binding with gilt lettering to front board and spine. Externally very smart. Bumped to extremities and slightly bumped to head and tail of spine. Slight sunning to spine. Hinges slightly strained but firm. Internally generally firmly bound, slightly strained in places. Pages bright and clean with the odd light scattered spotting to the occasional page. Very faint offsetting to endpapers. Very Good
