About This Item
New Malden UK: John Rimmer, 1970. Newsletter. Pagination runs between 16 and 20p (not invariably), format consistently being legal-sized (14x8.5 inches) leaves printed rectos only (copyshop work) so printed and folded as to make a nested gathering measuring 8.5x7 inches. Each and all are labor-saving copies of originals, to judge by the stapleback showing on cover leaf, then staple-removal marks further along. In several instances the original handwritten mailing address has been "abducted". See below, our thoughts on the evidence. As it is, each page of text naturally faces a blank; a reader will get used to the workaround. Aside from touches of edgewear, all nine issue-copies in this lot are in very good shape: sound, clean and unmarked. FYI, the M in mufob gets explained with an apology for the awkward coinage. Last notion re format: most likely the copying is a subscriber's distribution to fellow enthusiasts, rather than overworked editor Rimmer taking a shortcut, who says there's unceasing demand and that he's exhausting his stock of back issues. For skeptical believers; the editor for example respects Jacques Vallee while disagreeing on points of Vallee's general summation. Whole # 49 on p.3 quotes Vallee on "the 'myth' of extraterrestrial intervention, and how the myth is promoted and manipulated by various cult and fringe political figures, and also perhaps by intelligence agencies. Vallee argues that the UFO experiences are manifestations of a 'psychic technology' (meaning a technology that aims to produce psychological effects)" ..etc. etc. // Item self-describes as "an informal journal devoted to ufology and related subjects. It is published independently by the Editors, and has no connection with any other UFO journal or group. Views expressed by contributors are not necessarily shared by the Editors.." (quoted from terminal page of whole number 47).
