About This Item

London: Century, 1994. Hardcover. Fine/Very Good. First edition. Fine in very good or better dustwrapper with rubbing, light wear and some bumping at the crown and topedge. Inscribed by Wesker to Tony Award-winning actress Marian Seldes: "Dear, dear Marian, Some say I dared too much. What will you say. Love Arnold. 22.v.95." Seldes has highlighted several passages in the text marked with slips of paper. She has also laid an Autograph Postcard Signed to Seldes from Wesker dated in January 10, 1978 and a pamphlet for the Penguin Plays set of *The Plays of Arnold Wesker." Seldes appeared with Zero Mostel in Wesker's ill-fated 1977 play *The Merchant*, a reinterpretation of Shylock from Shakespeare. Tragically, Mostel died after the first preview performance and was replaced by an ill-suited understudy. Seldes was Wesker's pillar of support during the stressful production, and the two formed a strong bond that last long after the play closed its one week run. A nice association.
