Tears and chips in spine ends, small holes in front hinge, white marks on boards, corners bumped. Front free endpaper torn out. Foxing, esp. to first and last pages and plates. Pages 33 to 40 detached. Small tears in edges of 357-9.

Includes bios of Henry Ward Beecher, Frederick Douglass, Harriet Beecher Stowe, William Cullen Bryant, John Greenleaf Whittier, William H. Seward, and Horace Greeley, among others.
