The first Dublin edition of Philip Dormer Stanhope's miscellaneous writings, published shortly after his popular 'Letters' were published. The three volume first Dublin edition of this work, published in the same year as the first London edition.Collated, illustrated with a portrait frontispiece and five plates to volume I. Lacking two plates.With a half title to each volume.ESTC No. N5220.With the inscription of J. Bell Attorney to a front blank of volume II.This work comprises of letters from Stanhope to his friends, and also a memoir on the Earl of Chesterfield by Matthew Maty, who began the work with the assistance of Solomon Dayrolles. The work was completed by his son-in-law Justamond. These miscellaneous works hold the first appearance of Maty's memoir. Rebacked in a full calf binding, with boards restored. Endpapers renewed. Significant rubbing and losses of leather to joints of volumes I and II, with rubbing to back strip heads and tails. Loss of leather to tail of front boards of volumes I and III. Inscription to front blank of volume II. Internally, firmly bound. Pages age toned due to paper type, but clean. Two areas of loss to head of volume I title page, reinforced to the verso. Very Good
