About This Item
New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1941. First Edition. First Edition. James M. Cain's second novel, considered by many to be his finest work.
Basis for the classic 1945 film noir, directed by Michael Curtiz and starring Joan Crawford and Ann Blyth. Definitively remade by director Todd Haynes for HBO in 2011, starring Kate Winslet, Guy Pearce, and Melissa Leo, finally restoring the novel's devastating third act.
Very Good plus in a Very Good plus dust jacket. Book's green cloth is lightly soiled in a few spots. Jacket is slightly faded on the spine panel, with rubbing at the corners and a couple of tiny nicks to same.
The Dark Page I: 1940-1949, p. 46.
