Part of the publisher's series in Ethnicity and Gender in Appalachia. Memphis Tennessee Garrison (1890-1988) was a teacher in McDowell County, West Virginia, who organized a chapter of the NAACP in 1921. From 1931 to 1946 she was the community mediator for U.S. Steel Gary Mines and from 1963 to 1966 she was vice president of the National Board of the NAACP. Based on interviews recorded in 1969. Book and Dust Jacket are in Fine Condition: clean and bright.
