Slight soiling, rubbing, browning and/or foxing throughout (chiefly to wrappers and foredges); small holes at spine edges (disbound); slight wear and browning to foredges and lower edges. 7 pages. Upper wrapper title. At head of title: 63 (in brackets). Report to both the Senate and the House of Representatives by the society's board of managers, detailing the increase in the number of 'free people of color of the United States' and the success of the society's mission to Africa (i.e. the Liberian colony); signed by members John Mason, W. Jones [i.e. Walter Jones], E. B. Caldwell and F. S. Key [probably not Francis Scott Key of 'Star-Spangled Banner' fame] and dated February 1, 1820 at document's end (page 7). Dated February 3, 1820 on upper wrapper ('Referred to the Committee on so much of the President's Message as relates to the Slave Trade'; upper wrapper). Walter Jones (1776-1861), American lawyer, US attorney for the District of Columbia (1802-21); one of the founders of the American Colonization Society (1816) and a strong opponent of secession.
