Octavo (8 1/2 by 5 3/4 inches) Philadelphia: J. B. Lippincott & Co., 1881. First Edition. 322 pages illustrated with engraved frontispiece and portraits (including Sheridan, Sherman, Rosecrans, and Grant), Appendix (containing "Speech of General W. T. Sherman," and letters from George B. McClellan, and others regarding the unveiling of a statue, and the dedication of a monument in honor of Thomas), and an index. Green cloth binding bordered in blind with Greek key pattern, facsimile signature of Thomas, in gilt, centered on upper cover; and title, author and publisher in gilt on spine. Very good condition (minor shelf wear, not affecting contents).
