New York: Derby & Jackson, 1856. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good. Publisher's decorative blind stamped cloth over boards, title and decorations stamped in gilt onto spine, 8vo (7-1/4 inches tall), pp. x, 480, colored endpapers, tissue-guarded steel engraved frontis with 8 additional engraved plates (Wagner-Camp plate count omits the plate "Prairie on Fire"). Volume with spine gilt mostly wanting, modest wear to spine ends and edges, small ink stains to spine and upper cover, 2nd fep with a one inch closed tear at foot, leaf 265/266 has a tiny piece of upper corner torn off, last few leaves with small tide mark to top edge. A tightly bound and useable copy. Sabin 5306; Wagner- Camp 271a; Smith, p. 28.
