This is a very readable copy of a 1902 printing of Mauprat, the 1837 novel by the iconic French writer George Sand (Amantine Dupin). It is a love story but it explores the issue of education for women and examines a woman's traditionally passive role in a marriage.
This copy is dated 1902. It is lime green cloth-covered boards with a fleur de lis design on the spine. There is a portrait of her at the front, and a section of portraits of her at the back--she was painted on numerous occasions, and photographed.

Synopsis
Mauprat is a novel by the French novelist George Sand about love and education. It was published in serial form in April and May 1837. Like many of Sand's novels, Mauprat borrows from various fictional genres- the Gothic novel, chivalric romance, the Bildungsroman, detective fiction, and the historical novel.
