About This Item

London: George G. Harrap & Co. Ltd, 1934. First Edition. Very Good/Very Good. 1934-1938. 4 Volumes. First edition, first printings. Bound in publisher's plum colored cloth over beveled-edge boards. Volumes average in Very Good condition. Dust soiling, foxing, thin edge-fading to cloth, pages toned. Light tidemark to front cover of Volume I, and tidemark to bottom corner of textblock, not affecting margins. Full-age owner gift inscription to front free endpaper of Volume II. Small stain to textblock edge and two small tidemarks to rear cover of Volume IV. In Good to Very Good dust jackets, with Volumes I, II & IV price-clipped, hence it is possible that the dust jackets of Volumes I & II are from a slightly later printing. Jackets are toned, worn. Volume I shows wrinkles, tidemarks along flap folds and small splashes to spine. Volume II is chipped at front bottom flap fold. Churchill's monumental, four-volume biography of his great ancestor, John Churchill, the first Duke of Marlborough.
