About This Item
(London: The Batchworth Press, 1953). 4to; original blue cloth, lettered in gilt on spine; no dustwrapper; pp. ix + (iii) + 140, incl. index; reproductions in monochrome of contemporary maps and artwork. Earlier owner's bookplate to front free endpaper; occasional fox spot. Very good condition. "The high repute in which the Map Room [of the British Museum] is at present held is in no small measure due to Dr. Lynam's energy and enthusiasm for maps and the study of maps, for he did much to enrich the collection and to make it better known. The varied essays collected in this book, and the bibliography at its end, will demonstrate the extent of Dr. Lynam's contribution to cartography ... We owe a great deal to Edward Lynam, a fine high-spirited scholar and a man of great personal charm, for he gave the British Museum, and the Map Room in particular, most loyal and devoted service." .
