About This Item

London: Hodder and Stoughton. Very Good+ in Good dust jacket. 1938. Twelfth Edition. Hardcover. DJ clipped and scuffed with tears and creasing, small loss top back edge. Book has previous owner's stamp on FFEP, store sticker on back pastedown. ; DJ in protective Mylar sleeve, unclipped. A tight solid book. ; 12mo 7" - 7½" tall; 192 pages; "The arguments of this book are: (1) That Evolution is a reality, and that there can be a real increase of value as time proceeds; that the achievement of Evolution is not easy, but demands effort; and that at certain stages, when freedom is introduced, there is an element of risk and even of pain, as long as the immature and nascent period lasts, or, more generally, where the free element is in its necessary growing stage. (2) That mankind, as such, dating from the grant of conscious freedom, is in an early stage of evolution, having but recently risen from an animal ancestry; that man is unfinished, and that his present condition is a natural consequence of his immaturity. Contents: Outlook on the Universe; The Effort of Evolution; The Coming of Man; The Development of Man; The Destiny of Man; The Best of All Possible Worlds; The Love of the World; Man's Ascent; and Transcendental Man." .

About Ainsworth Books

Ainsworth Books was for many years a bricks and mortar store in Vancouver, BC. When we acquired the store, we moved to a location in Delta. After three years we moved the stock home and started operation as an online, by appointment only operation. I have worked with books my whole adult life and enjoy giving recommendations.
