About This Item
"What if Hitler had never been born?
In Stephen Fry's most seriously ambitious novel to date, he creates a futuristic fantasy that becomes a thriller with a funny streak. Tackling one of history's darkest episodes, he poses the question: What if Hitler had never been born? An unquestionable improvement, no doubt. Michael Young, an earnest young history graduate student, has just finished his dissertation, an exploration into the roots of evil and the early life of Adolf Hitler. When he meets up with an aging German physicist, they concoct an idealistic experiment that involves time travel to prevent the conception of the Fhrer. It will change the course of history, but will it create a better world? With characteristic brilliance and wit, Fry presents a thought-provoking alternate history that is both trenchant and deeply affecting."
Stephen John Fry (born 1957) is an English actor, broadcaster, comedian, director, narrator and writer. He first came to prominence as one half of the comic double act Fry and Laurie, alongside Hugh Laurie, with the two starring in A Bit of Fry & Laurie (1989-1995) and Jeeves and Wooster (1990-1993). He also starred in the sketch series Alfresco (1983-1984) alongside Laurie, Emma Thompson and Robbie Coltrane, and in Blackadder (1986-1989) alongside Rowan Atkinson. Since 2011, he has served as president of the mental health charity Mind.
This copy is very good in black cloth with gilt titles on the spine. It would be fine, except for a dent at the lower spine corner of the rear board, which also extends into some of the pages. The unclipped DJ has a corresponding dent as well. Otherwise, there are no marks or damage.
