About This Item
London: Jonathan Cape, 1985. First edition. Cloth. Fine/Near Fine. 8" by 5.5". Not Stated. A first edition copy of the sixth major novel of successful postmodernist author John Fowles. The first edition of this work in the publisher's original cloth binding, with the original dust wrapper, clipped and re-priced by the publisher. A Maggot (1985) is a postmodern novel by British author John Fowles. Its title, as the author explains in the prologue, is taken from the archaic sense of the word that means "whim", "quirk", "obsession", or even a snatch of music. Another meaning of the word "maggot" becomes apparent later in the novel, used by a character to describe a white, oblong machine that appears to be a spacecraft. In publisher's original cloth binding, with original dust wrapper, clipped and re-priced by the publisher. Externally, cloth is in excellent condition. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean. Dust wrapper is smart and bright. Fine
