About This Item

London: Cassell. Near Fine in Very Good dust jacket. 1960. First Edition; First Printing. Hardcover. In Fine red cloth boards, with the spine lettered & ornamented in gilt. In the original publishers' unclipped pictorial dustjacket which is beautifully illlustrated by B. S. BIRO. The dust jacket is lightly 'sunned' to the spine, and very slightly chipped to the top corners - now neatly repaired to the reverse of the d /j and is now in a new protective clear - removable - bookfilm plastic cover and looks Very Good. The page fore -edges are lightly foxed and the front free endpaper has a large lightly browned patch where I think there was probably a cutting or similar - now long gone . NO Inscriptions or other Marks. ( xiv) + 390 pp, illustrated with 16pp black & white plates on glossy 'art' paper. "Challenged by a continental friend who said that a mere article would be sufficient to cover the Amourous heritage of Englishmen. Nina Epton has risen to the defence of the English as Lovers with admirable zest and a nice wit..." . This is however a serious discourse on 'love' from anglo saxon times onward - exploring the relationship between the sexes - well researched. Overall an Excellent Very Clean, Tight and Bright VG copy in a delightful d/j illustrated by Biro. See images. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall .
