Chicago: Belford, Clarke & Co, 1888. Hardcover. 156p., preface, pencil gift inscription (non-authorial) extensive pencil notations from previous owner, a bookseller, on fly leaf, dark ink-like stain on fore-edge bleeding into margins else fair in heavily-worn blue cloth boards and gilt. The stories include as subjects and settings railroads, the labor movement, socialists, dynamite etc. Noted in Wright III #4229. Ohio author. In his preface he rails against theft of copyrighted materials, noting that anarchists and communists in Chicago were hung and shot for believing Property is Theft but publishers stealing from authors went unpunished!
