Paris. A. Quantin. 1883. This copy presented in a spectacular custom binding by esteemed designer, R. Rene Hirsch. Full brown crushed morocco with inlaid coloured falling umbrellas which appear to drift down the front cover and around onto the rear cover. Elaborate ruled turn-ins with colour insets in the Art Nouveau style. Spectacularly ornate doublures in multi-chromatic pattern silk. Further charming gilded endsheets in an umbrella design. t.e.g. Crushed gilt titled morocco chemise with matching endsheet design to front and rear covers. Morocco edged, suede-lined slipcase with original silk front and rear covers laid-on. 8vo (10.75" x 6.75"). Fabulously illustrated with illuminated chromolithographic plates, duotone and monochrome vignettes, decorations, etc. by Paul Avril. A breathtaking presentation. Slipcase mildly rubbed, chemise slightly rubbed at hinges. A Fine copy.Featured Art.
