About This Item

The Detective Book Club produced volumes of three crime novels from 1942 to 1999. Originally monthly, near the end they dwindled down to just a few per year. Many famous detective and crime novelists had their early works featured in DBC editions. Often, books were published in DBC editions before, or at the same time as they were published in mass market form. A little about our authors:

Bill James: Bill James is another prolific writer with at least 68 published novels. He is known mainly for the 35-volume Harpur and Isles series. James has created seven other short series of two to four books and has 18 stand alone novels This is the second Harpur and Iles novel.

Valerie Martin: In a career that has spanned from 1978 to 2020, Martin has published fourteen novels, four collections and one work of non-fiction. The novels range from suspenseful romance, to mystery to children's fiction about two cats. Since her most recent work came out earlier this year, there is nothing to say she is done yet.

Max Allan Collins: This is a hugely prolific and varied author. Collins has published over 175 works, in genres such as mystery, horror, western, historical mystery, thriller, science fiction, young adult fiction, and comic strips. His series Quarry has been made into a television series and at least three works have become movies, including Road to Perdition, Mommy and Mommy's Day. This is the tenth of seventeen in Collins' Nathan Heller series.
