Two volumes in 3/4 red leather over marbled boards, marbled endpapers, 8vo, 315 & 308pp. (general shelfwear and soiling to outer extremities, inner hinges cracked, volume two with heavily worn and chipped spine strip with loss to bottom half, hinges cracked, boards detahced (old tape repair remnants). A fair reading/reference copy of a scarce set.....sold as is.

Small 1/2" rubbed area at foot of front cover. All edges gilt. A total of 29 biographical sketches of English actors of the time. Included are Nell Gwinn, Charles Hart, Colley Cibber, Richard Savage, Mrs. Siddons, Mrs. Baddeley among many others. 315-308pp.. First Edition. 1/2 Black Calf. Moderate Wear and Scuffing/No Jacket. Octavo.

Volume 1 ([v], vi, [vii], viii, 315 pages), Volume 2 ([vi]. 308 pages). Hardcover. Matching half morocco with marbled boards and matching marbled endpapers. Top edge gilt. Spine shows five raised bands, Title and author stamped in gilt along with date stamped in gilt on tail of spine.
Condition: VG with with wear at corners and fore-edge. Hinges are solid, though show some wear, Paper strip on inside of front cover, both volumes, as though an ex-libris had been carefully trimmed from the book.. Top and bottom of spine show some minor shelf-wear as well as some minor spotting to spine of volume two. Overall an attractive copy.

London: Henry Colburn and Richard Bentley, 1831. First edition. Hardcover. Very Good. 5 x 8 in. Vol 1 - viii, 315 pgs. Vol 2 - 308 pgs. Half light brown morocco with marble paper boards. Contemporary bindings. 5 raised bands on spine with gilt decoration and lettering. Matching marbled endpapers. Gilt upper text block. Condition of books is VERY GOOD ; corners and edges have wear and several corner triangles have surface tears. Vol 1 has slight crack to inside front hinge, not affecting the solidity of the binding. One the whole the spines are lovely and the bindings very good and solid. Paper boards are lightly rubbed, ffep have some darkening and foxing, text is very clean with no foxing. Title pg of vol 1 is darkened from some inserted paper. Both have two bookplates on front pastedown - one belonging to prof Victor Lange, the other to Joseph Billiat, of Aisthorpe Hall. The gilt designs on the spines are of flowers and very attractive.Very nice books and a rarity. Theater. RGR.
