East Aurora, New York: Roycrofters and Wm. W. Wise & Co, 1928. Book. Near Fine. Hardcover. Memorial Edition.. A beautiful, complete set in their original dust jackets. Clean flexible brown faux leather boards with intricate gold stamped decorative title box on covers and spines. Special inscription page on Volume I only + standard title page. Decorative Inscription Page specifies "for Mildred C. Gillette, Member Elizabeth Barrett Browning Chapter, Roycroft Junto." All have clean intact unmarked endpapers. Very little wear to these books; no fading; bindings are tight and square, pages and edges are clean and bright. Beautifully illustrated, and with a frontispiece portrait in each volume with printed tissue guard. Dust jackets are clean, some have slight edge wear and/or short closed edge tears. Even the Guide Book has its original dust jacket. Includes Good Men and Great; Famous Women; American Statesmen; Eminent Painters; English Authors; Eminent Artists; Eminent Orators; Great Philosophers; Great Reformers; Great Teachers; Great Businessmen; Great Scientists; Great Lovers & Great Musicians. Difficult to find a complete set in this condition and all with the original jackets..

Although the copyright date on the reverse of the title page is 1916, this is The Anniversary Edition produced by the Roycrofters in East Aurora, NY, and dated 1922, per notice on last page. 308+ pages in very good condition (light edgewear, especially at top and bottom of spine; evidence of sticker removal on the first free endpaper; a bit of scuffing on the red-brown covers; the silk book mark is present but just laid in, no longer attached). Top edge gilt bright and clean. No dust jacket. Decorations and title page are clean, impressive examples of the craftsman style of the Roycrofters, as are the "initials"--beginniing letters--of sections. Photos available on request. Portraits present of each subject.
