In publisher's first state dust jacket, $15.95 on front flap, small tape repair to bottom edge of spine on verso, bright illustrations, a near fine example. This copy is signed by the author on the title page. David Cornwell (1931-2020) was a British author who wrote under the pen name of John le Carre. In 1961, while working for British intelligence, le Carre published his first novel, Call for the Dead. With his third novel, The Spy Who Came in from the Cold (1963), le Carre became an international best-selling author, and he soon began writing full-time. Many of le Carre's works are spy novels set during the Cold War. Several were made into movies. The Little Drummer Girl was made into an American film starring Diane Keaton in 1984, and it was adapted into a BBC miniseries in 2018. In 2008, The Times of London included John le Carre on its list of "50 greatest British writers since 1945.
Synopsis
The Little Drummer Girl is a spy novel by John le Carré, published in 1983. The story follows the manipulations of Martin Kurtz, an Israeli spymaster who is trying to kill a Palestinian terrorist code-named 'Khalil', who is bombing Jewish related targets in Europe, particularly Germany, and the English actress Charlie, who becomes a double agent working on the behalf of the Israelis. The novel does not feature le Carré's most famous character George Smiley.
