About This Item

Stans: Logiceum Capella, 1989. Hardcover. Good +. Hardcover. 10" X 4 1/4". 87pp. Mild wear to blue paper over boards with light rubbing to covers and gentle bumps to corners. Pages are clean and unmarked. Binding is sound. Lacks Wrist Watch.

This is an apparently scarce text that originally came with what it refers to as a "Hum-Watch," which appears to have been a kind of concept watch for the well-established watch brand Capella; as we were unable to find any reference online to the Hum-Watch explored here, we suspect it may have been a prototype or proposal that never made it to production. Throughout the text are references to Carl Jung's theories about Archetypal images, along with explanations of how to understand these images (using your watch) in order to obtain happiness and fulfillment. There are many mentions of the symbols of the "circled four-leaf clover" and the "wheel." A color photograph of two Hum-Watches on page 87 suggests these were the two Hum-Watch design choices offered for purchase. Chapter titles of this book include "Luck and its symbols," "Happiness and its secret," "Reflections on the term ," The essential structural elements of the circled four-leaf and man," "The circled four-leaf as a scheme of concentration or as a means for discovering our own bodies," "The exercise," "Benefits of the exercise," "In search of the subconsious archetype of completeness," "Happiness and time," and "The clock and happiness." Pages 68-87 contain black-and-white and color illustrations of various symbols (with explanatory texts) and places deemed spiritual "monuments of happiness."

About Underground Books, ABAA

Underground Books is an online rare and antiquarian bookshop as well as a brick and mortar general bookstore of the same name in downtown Carrollton, Georgia. Sister store Hills & Hamlets Bookshop is located in the nearby planned eco-community of Serenbe.

Co-owners Josh Niesse and Megan Bell met in 2011, just 10 days or so after Josh opened the doors of Underground Books, literally underground, several steps below street level in a 100-year-old basement in our historic downtown. Megan, an English student at the University of West Georgia, walked in, fell down the rabbit hole, and never left! Reader, we married in May of 2014, under the book arch that now resides at the bookshop. We are both proud alumni of the Colorado Antiquarian Book Seminar (CABS), and Megan additionally of Rare Book School at the University of Virginia and of the ABAA Women's Initiative Mentorship Program.

We have two open bookshops that carry new, used, bargain, rare, and antiquarian books, as well as our online office, impossible without our incredible team of booksellers, including two fellow CABS graduates, Miranda McMillan and Suzanne Carnes.

Like many booksellers with open brick-and-mortar stores, we are passionate generalists, but our specialties are in decorative publisher's cloth bindings; fairy tales, folklore, and mythology; popular science and natural history; the occult; and fine press books.
