About This Item

London England: Evans Brothers. PaperbackThe Lion Gate. A Journey in Search of the Mycenaean some browning to edges. Small tear to top edge of back cover. In 1876 Heinrich Schliemann, the well-known German archaeologist, announced to an astonished world his discovery of the famous grave Circle of Mycenae with its royal shaft graves filled with objects of art and gold, and claimed to have found the grave of Agamemmon immportalised in Home as the leader of the greek expedition against Troy. Who, is fact, were the Mycenaeans whose kings and Queens were buried in the grave Circle centuries before Home wrote his poems. The author has sought to delve fursther into the mysteries of the Mycenaean civilisation, the first perhaps to develop on the mainland of Europe, and which has through its influence on the world of classical Greece penetrated our own culture to such a great extent. Illustrated. 272 pp. (We carry a wide selection of titles in The Arts, Theology, History, Politics, Social and Physical Sciences. academic and scholarly books and Modern First Editions etc.) . Good.
