Small octavo, highly decorated boards with floral pattern in colours and gilt, all edges gilt, frontis author portrait, tissue-guard, b&w illus, pp viii, 240. Previous owners inscriptions. Edges and corners rubbed, some fraying and darkened spine, contents clean. Very good condition. The life of Buddha, in the form of a narrative poem by an imagined Buddhist. One of the first attempts when published in 1879 to popularise Buddhism for a Western audience. Boards.
