Novelist and journalist Mary Anne Barker and her second husband Frederick Napier Broome traveled extensively, and both became journalists, Lady Barker becoming a correspondent for The Times. Life in South Africa consists of her chatty, anecdotal and illuminating letters. This the First American Edition; the English edition issued the same year under the title, "A Year's Housekeeping in South Africa". In the publisher's brown cloth, with minor loss to the top of the spine; 136pp.; double column text plus 4pp. ads. Previous owner name on the endpapers; some soiling to the rear endpapers.; minor spotting to the rear board. Very Good+ binding.
