About This Item
New York: Random House, 1972. Book Club. . Hardcover. Near Fine/Near Fine. The fifth and final novel in the Edgar Award-winning Westlake's mystery-crime series written under his "Tucker Coe" pseudonymn. Like the first four, the book features ex-cop Mitchell Tobin, thrown off the NYPD several years ago when his partner was killed while Tobin was with another man's wife instead of backing up his partner. Since then, Tobin's guilty conscience has imprisoned him as effectively as any prison. Just now, finally able to seek and find work as a museum security guard, the other man's wife re-surfaces, making life difficult, and on top of that, he discovers a corpse in the museum and becomes a person of interest in the murder investigation. Book Club edition, First Thus. Boards and text are clean and unmarked, tight and square. The primarily black dustjacket shows only a bit of rubbing and shelf wear. A very decent reading copy of one of Westlake's scarcer titles.
