Illustrated with photographs and maps. Folding map in rear of volume 3. Dark cloth hardcovers with gilt titles on front covers and spines. No dust jackets. 1946 Christmas gift inscription written on the right front flyleaf volume 1. United Daughters of the Confederacy label on the front paste down volume 3 (given to the Knoxville Chapter #89 by Mrs. George E. Bradford and Blanch McCullum Bradford). Gift inscription written on the right front flyleaf of volume 3 by Mrs. George E. Bradford, past President 1925-1927. Covers are lightly shelf worn with some spots. The title on the spine volume 2 is faded. A note written on the contents of volume 2. The front hinge of volume 3 is taped. Bindings are mostly sturdy and in good reading condition.
