About This Item
LONDON: JAMES NISBET AND CO, 1836 Small H/b.1836. Brown HALF Calf LEATHER with marbled paper sides, Four raised bands to spine with dec compartments, gilt line decs. and black leather title slip. Sewn head and tailbands.145x95mm approx. 324pp. Collection of 12 lectures and a letter on a child's birthday initially composed by the author and mostly first delivered to the public in Philadelphia whilst awaiting posting as a missionary to Chinsurah India. They were published in India and being well received were sent back to England for publication. May was superintendant of about twenty schools in Chinsurah and Calcutta and devoted his life to the religious instruction of the young for which he had a peculiar talent. He died in March 1918 in Calcutta. The book having quickly gone through several editions is testament to it's popularity although is now quite uncommon. The copy offered by us for sale is a Seventh Edition of 1836. VG ( General shelf rubbing, binding sound, a little light foxing and soiling to prelim. and end papers and a couple of page corners turned. No other notable faults). Please see our image of the actual book offered for sale. We are pleased to be able to offer the option of card payment at our website where additional images of the item may also be available.
