Toronto: Clarke, Irwin & Company Limited, 1954. First printing (NAP). Hardcover. Near Fine/Very Good+. 5 x 8 1/8. 4I. Full cloth-covered boards, in dustjacket. Second title in the wonderful Salterton Trilogy. Very pretty jacket art by Clair Stewart. A nice copy with tight binding and intact hinges. No marks. Pages and endpapers toned. Small dark spot front gutter. Some light nicks to page-edges. Light bump to top back corner. Price-clipped dustjacket has a little edge-wear and -creasing, but no chips or tears; a couple small scuffs to back panel, and a smudge inside at tail of spine, not visible from outside.
Synopsis
Leaven of Malice, published in 1954, is the second novel in The Salterton Trilogy by Canadian novelist Robertson Davies. The other two novels are Tempest-Tost and A Mixture of Frailties. The series was also published in one volume as The Salterton Trilogy in 1986. The trilogy revolves around the residents of the imaginary town of Salterton, Ontario. Davies won the Stephen Leacock Award for Humour in 1955 for Leaven of Malice.
