Paris: Imprimerie Paul Dupont, [1897]. Lithographic print (25 x 18 cm.), with short tear to margin and remnant from previous mounting to verso (not showing through); overall well-preserved. Known more for his Symbolist paintings, Eugène Carrière also carried out advertising work in fin-de-siècle Paris. Here, he supplied the muse for Georges Clemenceau's soon-to-launch journal L'Aurore, which would publish Zola's incendiary Jaccuse" the following January. This design executed in both large & small formats; this one intended for the interiors of bookshops & cafes.
