Paris: P. Fort, Éditeur, MDCCCXCVIII [1898]. 220, 16 [catalog]pp. Twelve illustrations by D. Mullet. Original wrappers bound into quarter goat with raised bands and gilt spine title; marbled endpapers; ribbon bookmark; top edge gilt. Minor rubbing at tips of covers; very good.
First edition, first printing of this novel-play in eleven tableaux. Jarry's peer, Paul Fort, founded Théâtre d'Art (1890-93) at the age of 18 in response to the Naturalistic theater. He also co-founded and edited the literary review Livre d'Art with Jarry and founded Vers et Prose with poet Guillaume Apollinaire.
