London: Longman, Brown, Green, Longmans and Roberts, 1858. Leather. Good. 8.5" by 6". Various. An illustrated edition of this famous romance work. In a lovely Mansell binding. With binder's stamp to the verso of front endpaper. Lalla Rookh comprises of four narrative poems, with a connecting tale in prose. The heroine of the tale is Lalla Rookh which means 'tulip cheeked' and is used as an endearment in Persian poetry. Written by Irish poet, singer, songwriter and entertainer, Thomas Moore. In a full calf binding with gilt stamping to the board edges and to the spine. Externally, generally smart with bumping to the extremities. Patches of rubbing to the joints, raised bands and extremities. Further rubbing to the head and tail of spine Light rubbing to boards. Binder's stamp to the verso of front endpaper, 'Mansell, Successor to Hayday'. Loosely inserted is a statement of the prior owner, Samuel Henry Robinson with a poem about lending books. Another prior owner's inscription to the recto of front free endpaper, A Thompson. Gift inscription to the verso of front endpaper from one J B Harding. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright. Small amount of offsetting from frontispiece. Spots to the first and last few pages. Otherwise, occasional spots to pages. Good
