About This Item

San Diego: Harcourt Brace Jovanovich, 1990. Ex-lib with pocket on front pastedown; unpaginated; First edition stated, first printing; else Good in red cloth titled in gilt over blue boards decorated in gilt; no dustjacket. Crossed-out information on the front free endpaper (probably the name of the person it was signed to) and on the title page. Boards are badly rubbed on the edges and corners, and there are a few areas - two large areas on the back in particular - where there must have been some tape removed, lifting the blue paper and leaving white. Signed by the author, along with a drawing of a lady with a ship on her head. Interior of the book is totally clean and crisp, with brilliantly detailed color illustrations. . Signed by Author. First Edition. Hard Cover. Illus. by Deborah Nourse Lattimore. 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall.

Synopsis

Madame Pompenstance decides to decorate her hair with seashells in a desperate attempt to win the prize for the Best Headdress at the Fancy Dress Ball, but she doesn’t notice the ship that sails onto her head when she bends down to gather shells at the beach. “Lattimore has crafted exquisite, historically accurate illustrations that will provide as much mirth as her tongue-in-cheek tale.”-- Publishers Weekly

Terms of Sale

Cat's Cradle Booksellers

All offerings are subject to prior sale. Prices exclude postage. For speed and convenience, we prefer shipping via Priority Mail (within the U.S.). Shipment by Media Mail (aka Book Rate) is usually available, but then we cannot be sure how long it will take for you to receive your books, particularly during holiday periods. The rates shown for international shipments are best-estimates. Purchases shipped to a destination in Illinois are subject to sales tax. Everything offered is guaranteed to be as described. If you disagree that an item meets the description (or if you just change your mind), your purchase may be returned within five days for a refund -- in the same condition as received, of course. "Change of mind" refunds do not include shipping charges. Notice that you intend to return a book is required.
