About This Item
London: Hodder and Stoughton, 1909. First edition. Cloth. Very Good. 7.5" by 5". Not Stated. A smart first edition of this historical novel from popular Victorian writer, H. Rider Haggard. First edition. With a colour frontispiece. A charming historical novel, set during the reign of Henry VIII following a Cicely and the man she has loved since childhood, featuring the Pilgrimage of Grace. Written by Sir Henry Rider Haggard, an English writer of adventure fiction romances set in exotic locations and a pioneer of the lost world literary genre. A first issue with the misprint to page 79, line 16, the word "very" for "every" as cited in "A Bibliography of the Works of Sir Henry Rider Haggard 1856-1925" by J. E. Scott. In the original green cloth binding with a colour plate mounted to the front board. Externally, smart with minor bumping and fading to the spine. The odd small mark to the boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean with the odd spot. Contemporary ink inscription to the front endpaper. Very Good
