Description:
Dehli, India: Gyan Book Pvt. Ltd., 2019. A sharp facsimile edition of this intriguing work. The rare original was written as a letter to Henry Ellis read December 13th, 1832; and, first published in 1834 as Dracontia or Observations On Circle and Serpent Worship. From John Bathurst Deane, author of: "The Worship of the Serpent Throughout the World - Attesting the Temptation and Fall of Man by the Instrumentality of a Serpent Tempter." In this treatise, Deane presented a full investigative and studied treatise into related patterns in cultures across the world. This is a letter or addendum to the highly illuminating 1833 study of snake worship, especially the serpent in the Book of Genesis that convinced Eve to eat of the fruit of 'The Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil,' and then convinced Adam to do the same. A number of Gnostic texts and others referenced, expound on the idea of knowledge, and how the serpent gave this to humans. Deane includes mythical reptilian…

Inner hinges cracked but the repair retained the original endsheets, and the binding is solid through the text, with no loose or missing pages. Sticker ghost at front paste down, deep tanning to upper half of rear inner hinge, as though from a newsclipping used as a book marker. Pages foxed. Penciled notes to front paste down and FFEP, and with rare instances of same in the text. 391 pages.

She set sail for China in the autumn of 1905 to take up a post as missionary for the Women's Association of Foreign Missions of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland. In November 1905 she reached the mission station in Fakumen, immediately taking up lessons in Mandarin. She was like a man in her strength, and rose at any hour of the night or day to help us. Her name is known and revered through all this country.'" - Wikipedia. "Composed chiefly of her private letters to her mother and her sister. These letters were not intended for publication. They are all the more revealing and intimate on…
