About This Item
Boston:: Meador Publishing Company, 1935.. 2nd Edition.. Hardbound . BINDING/CONDITION: green cloth with gilt text; blind stamped ruled border; a Very Good book, with a Good dust jacket.. 8vo (8 inches tall) . Description: Includes 25 black and white plates. The subtitle reads: ''By the Anatomy of the Figure on the Title-Page of the Folio of 1623 of Shakespeare Plays, Being an Exposition of This Famous First Folio, With Notes to The Tempest, Love's Labor's Lost, and Sonnets''. This was originally published in 1915; this is stated to be the New Enlarged Edition. The author's preface begins: ''It is a strange thing to consider that it has taken us upward of three hundred years before we could realize and understand that the name 'Shakespeare' or 'William Shakespeare,' is the pseudonym, the pen-name of the author who wrote the works bearing this name. All along it was taken for granted that it referred to the strolling actor of Stratford, England. That he is not the author is categorically denied by the author himself. For he proves this by having his name printed, in the form of a figure, on the tile-page of his final, collected, and authorized edition, the Great Folio of 1623. The trouble with us has been that we did not suspect such a thing, and was, therefore overlooked.''
