First edition stated; full green cloth, 8vo, 309 pages; two dust jackets are on the book, both price-clipped and both with 3/64 at bottom of front flap. Toning in endpapers, occasional scattered foxing; dust jackets both with mild edge wear, one has small chip out at tail of spine. Winner of the Pulitzer Prize in 1965, The Keepers of the House is Shirley Ann Grau's masterwork, a many-layered indictment of racism and rage that is as terrifying as it is wise.

Synopsis

Keepers of the House is the debut novel of Lisa St Aubin de Terán, published as The Long Way Home in the US. The novel is autobiographical and set in a Venezuelan valley beset by drought. First published in 1982 by Jonathan Cape it won the Somerset Maugham Award.
