Bound in silver/blue cloth, with unclipped dw, 48 b/w photographs, 3 maps, 170pp. The story of the Karluk, the leading ship of Stefansson's Arctic Expedition of 1913-18 which was crushed and sunk in ice leaving the 25 sailors of the ship's crew stranded on the Arctic ice. Eleven of the crew died before rescue came.

Tells for the first time the story of the Karluk, the leading ship of the Stefansson Arctic Expedition of 1913-18, which was crushed and sunk in ice almost before the expedition began. The ship's crew of 25 were left stranded on the ice while the expedition leader continued on his northern exploration, not returning for five years. In the ensuing struggle for survival eight men died moving across the ice floes, one shot himself, 2 died of malnutrition and the rest barely managed to survive until rescue came. The incredible story is told by the magnetician and meteorologist for the expedition, Angus McDonald, a Scottish schoolteacher then 25 years of age. Illustrated by photographs taken at the time, most never before published.. First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good/Very Good. 4to.
