About This Item

Toronto, Ontario, Canada: Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre, 2010. Book. Very Good. Hardcover. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. The book and jacket are in very good condition, little shelf rubbing apparent. Text and images inside appear clean and clear throughout. 'A Culinary Journey Of Japanese Canadian Cooking." Nihon Shoku (`Japanese food') or Tabemono is rich and varied enough to sustain offshoots and survive somewhat without trouble, this hardcover and glossy book does not lay claim to the title of the most authentic or traditional Japanese cookbook. That is why entries like Spam Musubi, Japanese Chow Mein or Aunt Mitzi's Ginger Jelly Chicken exist next to sashimi, dashi or oden. Approximately seventy pages of this large-print book are allocated to recounting the stories and travels of Japanese Canadians all the way from 19th to late 20th century. There are plenty of tidbits about this community and its members from coast to coast. And there is as much emphasis on vivid and stylish photography as there is on recipes (Not that recipes and ingredients are neglected). In these photos Just Add Shoyu clearly plays to another one of the strengths of Japanese cuisine, its visual appeal.' 270 pages. 8.75 x 9.75 inches. May require additional postage.
