Two volumes, slightly smaller books, shiny black cloth with fancy embossed border at top and bottom front, rose with logo pattern inside covers and adjacent end papers, painted yellow at pages' top edges, gilt lettering and border very fine on spine. Volume One: Ink name at top of first front end paper, 369 lightly browned pages plus color map of Middle East. Volume Two: small ring stain at bottom front, ink name at top of first front end paper, 370-664 lightly browned pages plus ads. In sturdy slipcase, rose colored borders with illustration of obelisk and pharoah, slight surface wear to corners, tiny tears along top entrance, praise on side from Clifton Fadiman in New Yorker, Agnes E. Meyer in New York Times Book Review. Near Very Good set, in Good slipcase.
