About This Item

Portland, OR: Gus Van Sant, 1993. Ephemera. Fine. An original photograph of William Hurt as The Countess in Van Sant's film adaptation of Tim Robbins' Even Cowgirls Get the Blues. This image is from Van Sant's Polaroid series-he used a Polaroid camera to take photographs of actors during auditions and on set, reproducing them, as here, as gelatin silver prints.

Van Sant is best known for directing the films Drugstore Cowboy, My Own Private Idaho, Good Will Hunting, and the Harvey Milk biopic, Milk. Some of his Polaroid photographs were published as 108 Portraits.

11 by 14 inches. Fine. Signed in pencil by Van Sant on the verso (back).
