About This Item
New York: The Dial Press, 1970. First Edition. Octavo. First printing. 432(1) pages. Inscribed: "for Pete Preston, whose reinmaster touch brings sculpture to life." JPS Brown. Pete Preston had years of experience as a cowboy, ranch foreman and herdsman on ranches in Arizona, Texas, Utah and Colorado and uses them in his paintings and sculpture. Additionally signed as "Joe", unusually personal by J.P.S. Brown. Brown's western fiction speaks of the last days of the wild west and of the encroachment of developers in the Phoenix area. The most authentic picture of the cowboys and ranchers who dealt in the cattle trade in the post-World War II era. Chapters deal with key Spanish words central to the world of buying and selling cattle as well as the life of the cowboy with drinking, women, and facing the dudes from back east who thinks his new cowboy hat and garb makes him anything more than a play actor. Forget the third rate movie version called Pocket Money, read this classic on the life of the working cowboy and ranch owner in the West. Bound in 1/4 brown cloth over light brown paper covered boards, spine lettering black with some rubbing off, in unclipped pictorial dust jacket lettered and decorated in dark brown, spine lettering dark brown, old tape mend to spine.
